How long can a name be on an F1 team shirt?
20 characters is the ceiling, counting letters, spaces and punctuation. That covers the great majority of surnames and the short display names teams actually use, and it keeps the lettering readable across the upper back at the size the press is set to.
Shorter names are no cheaper, because the cost sits in the press setup and the material, not in the length of the string. If a name runs past 20 characters, tell us the name as it should appear and it is checked before the run rather than after.
How is the number sized and which font is used?
The number is cut separately from the name and sized to the back panel of the garment, then scaled per size so it reads the same on a small as it does on a 4XL. A number built for one size does not simply get shrunk onto another.
The font comes from your artwork. Send the number as vector if the shape matters, because a number redrawn from a low-resolution image loses the curve on a 2 and the tail on a 4. Name and number are cut from the same file family so the two line up as one set rather than two separate marks.
How does the heat-press process actually work?
Four steps, in order. The artwork is cut to shape from the print material. It is positioned on the garment against the placement you specified. It is pressed at a controlled temperature and pressure for a fixed dwell time, which is what bonds it into the knit. It is then cooled and the carrier film is peeled away.
Two details decide how it comes out. The first is the fabric: these shirts are knit polyester, which tolerates heat differently from cotton, so the press setting follows the garment rather than a single default. The second is the surface under the press, since a seam or a placket running through the print area will show through. Very large prints therefore get an extra check before pressing, not after.
What do the name and the number cost separately?
There is no separate rate for the two. Name and number together are one line at +$2 per piece, applied by heat press, with the name capped at 20 characters. The reason they are not split is that the press setup is the same job either way.
That means the add-on does not change whether you print a number alone, a name alone, or both. Team badges, sleeve marks and embroidery sit on a separate line and are quoted per piece from the artwork, and F1 jackets and race suits are quoted per order rather than from the base ladder.
Can I print a number without a name?
Yes. A number on its own, a name on its own, or both together are all normal requests, and the per-piece add-on stays at $2 in each case.
Squad orders usually mix the three. Some buyers print numbers only for a full squad and add names to a smaller set, and the print line is quoted per piece so the split is visible on the invoice before production starts. What happens if a name is misspelled or the print sits crooked?
